transcription

Definition

  • Transcription is the act of recording and preparing a record of a respondent's own words, and it yields a written account—a text— of what a respondent or informant said in response to a fieldworker's query or what respondents said to one another in conversation. The transcription may result from retyped handwritten notes or audio recordings. [Source: The SAGE Dictionary of Qualitative Inquiry; Transcription]
