Nation of Islam
Definition
- The Nation of Islam is an indigenous African American socioreligious movement that was founded in 1930 by W. D. Fard in Detroit, Michigan, and developed by Elijah Muhammad. Though it began as a socioreligious protest movement, its worldview is to a large extent embedded in the Qur'an (which is also spelled Koran). [Source: Encyclopedia of Black Studies; Nation of Islam]
