- Informed consent is the permission that a subject of research or recipient of treatment may give upon gaining a full appreciation of the facts and implications of a proposed procedure. It is the responsibility of the researcher or health care provider to secure informed consent, whenever possible, in accordance with disciplinary and institutional guidelines.
