Definition
- Peyote is the name given to a small cactus that grows in the southwestern United States and the northern and central reaches of Mexico. The plant, which contains natural hallucinogenic substances, the most well known of which is mescaline, is very slow growing and is in danger of extinction in the wild because of demand caused by its growing use among Native American Church groups and natives in Mexico.
