Preferred term

single-case research

Definition

  • Research that investigates the effect of an experimental treatment on one or a few research participants (Johnson & Christensen, 2008). It is frequently used in clinical settings where the goal is to evaluate a treatment for a particular individual rather than to determine the average effect for a population.
