Preferred term
urban renewal
Definition
- As it is commonly employed, the phrase urban renewal is used interchangeably with urban redevelopment to refer to the mix of public policies and private investment that transforms troubled urban areas into healthy business districts or residential neighborhoods. From a dispassionate point of view, urban renewal may be regarded as a process of “creative destruction” that replaces lesser with more desirable uses.
